Recently, I IN completed a container beer restaurant “SCHMATZ” in the center of Tokyo, bringing traditional German beer to Japan with its unique design. The bar is located in a corrugated metal shipping container with a typical industrial aesthetic on its façade. However, customers who walk into the interior of the restaurant will immediately feel the strong contrast of the warm interior furnishings. The interior uses a combination of wood and soft lighting. .
Upon entering the inside of the container bar, visitors will immediately receive a surprise and find themselves entering an extra comfortable interior. I IN uses the warmth of wood on the walls and the ground to create a warm atmosphere that surrounds the customer. The wooden texture itself is also associated with the traditional German beer hall, and the black and brass details embellish it add a touch of sophistication to the warmth and make the overall space more modern. In addition, the designer also decorated the wall with giant hot dog neon lights, adding a certain amount of fun elements.
The design of the SCHMATZ container bar is inspired by its environment – near the famous Japanese baseball stadium Tokyo Dome. With this element in mind, I IN hopes to be integrated into the trend of sports in the region when designing the design. Thanks to its proximity to the venue, the container restaurant bar has become an ideal place for sports fans to enjoy authentic German beer and cuisine while watching the competition.
